Norwegian painter & landscapist. born 1848 - died 1918.
Born in the county of Nordland in Norway - studied in Düsseldorf, Germany, and was still living there in 1887. Most of his life he lived in Berlin, but the motives in his great paintings are from Norway, especially from the county of Nordland and Lofoten. The modern life in Norwegian fjordcommunities, with big steamers and great tourist boats, was his new style. In fact he increased the tourist traffic to Norway! In 1918 he died from disease.
